This sweater was knit from an original cashmere-Merino wool blend which was developed solely for this item. This unique yarn is soft and plush, with a lustrousness that testifies to its quality. We were determined to make a sweater that would highlight the special texture of this yarn, an item which would attest to the singularity of its material, and many days of experimentation led us to a 5-gauge jersey knit and a simple shape which seemed to be the perfect expression of an ordinary sweater. This is a sweater that will never feel old, even after the passage of many years, and the more it is worn, the more it will feel like a beloved and familiar old friend. Try it on, and see how remarkable an ordinary sweater can be.
このセーターは、カシミヤフレンチメリノという１本の糸から生まれています。まったくのオリジナルの、この一着のためにつくられた糸です。ふんわりスポンディッシュでありながら、その奥に上質なヌメリもまた感じられる、品質に優れたユニークな糸です。この素材だからこそ味わえる質感、ほかにはないこの素晴らしい質感を、しっかりと感じていただけるものを編んでみたい、と考えました。あらゆる試行錯誤の末にようやく辿りついたこたえは、５ゲージの、天竺編みの、シンプルできれいなかたちの、ふつうのきわみのようなセーターでした。５年、10年、もっと長く、もっともっと長く。触れるほどに、着るほどに、ますます愛しくなるような。そんなセーターに仕上がりました。
For this sweater, we used rare French Merino wool, known for its extremely soft and light feel and the unpretentious character which makes it so ideal for sweaters, and blended this with cashmere, which may seem like an unlikely choice. By overcoming the technical challenges involved in merging the rougher and more unassuming character of French Merino wool with the sophisticated quality of cashmere, we succeeded in creating a soft and lustrous yarn with a unique texture and a feel like none other.
メリノウールのなかでも珍しいフランス産を採用しています。非常に軽くてふわっと膨らむというスポンディッシュな性質とセーターらしい素朴な風合いがフレンチメリノの最大の特徴と言えるでしょう。そこに、常識的に考えれば、決して選択されることのないであろうカシミヤをあえてブレンド。粗野で素朴な昔ながらのセーターみたいなフレンチメリノと、上質な肌触りのカシミヤという、相反する素材を掛け合わせるというチャレンジングな試みから、「ふんわりとしているのに上質なヌメリがある」ような、これまでにない触り心地が誕生しました。
This sweater features a jersey knit construction, the simplest of all knit structures, which we selected for its ability to serve as the most honest and unembellished representation of a sweater’s quality. We expect this sweater to be worn for many years, so we took great care with every stitch of this fabric to ensure that it will keep its shape no matter how much time goes by. By keeping things simple, we created a sweater that is not about technological capabilities, but about the impeccable quality of the material it is made of.
天竺編みを採用しています。最終的にこのもっともシンプルな編地に行き着いたのは、シンプルであるからこそ、ごまかしのきかないものであることを再認識できたから。長いときをかけて愛用されることを前提に、型崩れすることのないよう、一目一目、正確に、編み込まれています。さらにまた、シンプルであるからこそ、テクニックではない、素材そのものの良さを表現してくれるのです。
